Do you have edible labels?

We do not sell or print edible labels but we do have FDA compliant label materials that can be applied directly to the skin of fruits or vegetables. These labels are not intended for ingestion. The labeling of processed and raw foods are overseen by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), whereas commercial supplies of meat, poultry, and egg products are regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Depending on the type of fruit or produce, you may need food-safe labels that can have direct food contact. Fruits and produce that have skins that aren’t consumed (e.g. bananas and oranges) follow a separate set of guidelines because the label isn’t directly touching the food. If the label touches an edible part (e.g. tomatoes and apples), your labels will need to be printed on materials that are deemed safe for direct human contact or ingestion.

Although the FDA doesn’t require labels for locally sold fruit and produce, they do have rules on what types of label and adhesive materials may be used in direct contact for fruits, vegetables, and other fresh food products. Check out our resources on FDA guidelines for food labels to learn more about label regulation.
